Park Stickney

Park StickneyAlthough Park Stickney claims that it wasn't his plan at age 10 to become a world-traveling jazz harpist, he did embark on that path then by competing in the 1st International Jazz and Pop Harp Festival.

Since then, in addition to joining the festival's faculty (in 1995), he has performed across Europe, Asia and the United States, in a variety of genres and combinations: in the White House with a 4-harp ensemble to concerts in the south of France with his jazz trio, classical harp and flute duo recitals to avant-garde rock performances in downtown New York clubs.

He has toured India, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong 4 times with harpist Daphne Hellman, given workshops and concerts in Scotland for the Edinburgh Harp Festival (1996) and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (1996, 1998), and taught at the Academy of Pierre Jamet in Gargilesse, France (1997). Additionally, Stickney has performed as a guest soloist at the Soka Harp Festival in Japan, the first two Caribbean Harp Festivals in Puerto Rico, the Kansas City Festival of the Harp, the 1996 World Harp Congress, and on the cruise ship Queen Elizabeth II.

Summer 1998 he spent touring in Europe, teaching and performing at the Umbria Jazz Festival in conjunction with Berklee School of Music, playing concerts in Italy, as well as for a "Harfentreffen" in Frankfurt, and again for the Edinburgh Fringe, where he presented both trio and classical harp & flute concerts. In October, he gave a concert and master class in Arles, France for their "Journées de la Harpe."

1999 has been a busy year as well, with jazz harp workshops and concerts in Orlando (USA) and Maubeuge (France), tours in Germany and Switzerland in June, an appearance at the Seventh World Harp Congress in Prague, the Ventimiglia International Harp Festival in Italy, and a return appearance at the Académie Pierre Jamet (France) in August.

Stickney holds degrees from the Juilliard School and the University of Arizona, where his teachers included Nancy Allen and Carrol McLaughlin. In 1995 he recorded his first CD "OverDressed Late Guy." The sequel "Action Harp Play Set" released July 1999.
